Get On Board The Prayer Train

An expected 200+ city and county officials, pastors, and intercessors will embark on an extraordinary train excursion to pray their way by rail through their beloved Oregon coast county on the National Day of Prayer, May 2.

“We love our cities and our people and want to see our communities prosper and grow in the blessings of the Lord, says Linda Hanratty, Tillamook Countywide Prayer Team President. “We will pray great blessing and hope into every community, and into our nation. There will be music, short words of exhortation and inspiration to keep us ‘on track’.”

Deemed the “Sunset Prayer Train”, a historic 1925 McCloud steam engine pulling 6 cars will depart at 4 pm from the port city of Garibaldi (pop. 820) and travel south to Bay City. From there, it will head to its northern destination of Wheeler. Throughout the 4.5 hour round trip, train riders will pray for the cities, communities, and the 26,290 people of this rural maritime county, world famous for its cheese. As the sun sets on the return ride, they’ll pray for the state and the nation.

“We are asking the cities to bring their flags and come out to wave the train through, as they also pray for our cities, state and nation, says Hanratty. We will get as many people on the train as we can. It is our heart that all the Christian churches would get ‘on board’!” She estimates more than 30 countywide churches will be participating. Along with prayer, Hanratty says the Sunset Prayer Train trip will also allow time for “conversational discussions and prayer to solve problems. We will discuss all kinds of issues that need Divine intervention and hope.”

Hanratty encourages anyone who would like to be a praying participant to secure their free train ticket as soon as possible by contacting Lauri Norman at allpray@tcwpt.org, or by calling Living Water Fellowship at 503-842-6455.

The train will depart at 4pm from the Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad in Garibaldi and return at 8:30 pm. A boxed dinner will be available. A $10 donation for the dinner will be appreciated. Hanratty is urging folks to dress warmly and arrive early in Garibaldi to pick up name tags and reserved tickets at the Old Mill Marina Events Center across the street from the train depot. The doors will be open at 3:00 pm. There will also be live music and a prayer format to follow the train’s route at the Old Mill Marina Event Center for those not traveling on the train.

Hanratty says the train ride is being financed through a gift from the Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad and through the Tillamook Countywide Prayer Team (TCPT). She says the TCPT exists “to serve the needs of our communities and churches through prayer. We have three-quarters of the churches in Tillamook County assisting us in different prayer projects.”

TCPT is a non-denominational 501c3 organization working throughout Tillamook County and is also co-laboring with Pray Oregon, the State Prayer Team.
