50 Days of Prayer

Day 10 – Mothers and Fathers

April 5, 2016

Ephesians 6:1-4  Children obey your parents because you belong to the Lord, for this is the right thing to do. Honor your father and mother. This is the first commandment with a promise: If you honor your father and mother, things will go well for you, and you will have a long life on the earth. Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger by the way you treat them. Rather bring them up with the discipline and instruction that comes from the Lord.

Malachi 4:6

PRAYER:  Our Father in Heaven, You are God, the Father of all, the true source of all life, and model of real fatherhood. We see so many in the world today floundering for lack of a father and we cry out for them. Father, Your Word reveals Your heart for the fatherless, the widows and orphans, and we pray for godly fathers to be raised up to reach them. May every person experience the Father’s love, and wherever possible through the love of their earthly father. We pray for men to step up and take the mantle of leadership in each home, over every family. May they stand firm on truth while loving those under their care with the grace of Jesus Christ, our model of service and sacrifice. Restore the hearts of the fathers to the children and the children to the fathers, that their hearts may be encouraged to follow after You. Thank You, Lord, for godly mothers who have remained faithful to You no matter what the circumstances. Bless them with Your steadfast love, that they may know the joy and peace of a right relationship with You, and the blessing of a husband and children who honor them as they deserve. Teach us to truly honor our fathers and mothers as You, Lord Jesus, honored Your Heavenly Father and earthly mother.

*And now, Father, I thank you for my own parents and for my children. I know my relationships can be very flawed and wounded. I ask You to help me examine my own relationships with my parents and my children (even if they are no longer living or if they are estranged). Speak to my heart about them and how You would have me respond: ______. Are there areas of unforgiveness that I have held in my heart?________(Listen and obey!) I know that in order to be forgiven, I must forgive. Lord I ask You to forgive me for harboring negative feelings, even hatred toward myself and toward _________. I ask You to heal my heart and theirs. I give my wounds and my bitterness to You to put into the sea of forgetfulness. This cancels my responsibility to carry the pain of this relationship in my heart. Release me from the bondage of my past and fill me with Your Holy Spirit. Teach me to love and honor once again. Now, how would you have me to pray for them?_______How can I honor them this week? ______ (Listen and obey!) Thank You Father for Your blessing! We love and honor You! In the name of Jesus Your Son we pray, Amen.
